Business Architecture Guild Releases: A Guide to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge® (BIZBOK® Guide) Version 5.0

The Business Architecture Guild is pleased to announce A Guide to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge® (BIZBOK® Guide) Version 5.0. Business architecture is being used by a variety of industries worldwide to deliver actionable results across a wide range of scenarios.

BIZBOK® Guide V5.0 opens up a new chapter in the practice of business architecture. With foundational practices now well entrenched, companies have started sharing case studies that employ those best practices. We are thrilled to be sharing these!

As an outgrowth of business architecture’s growing popularity, the Guild continues to package and share member-contributed best practices via the BIZBOK® Guide. Version 5.0 includes new content, new sections and a range of enhancements and refinements:

Business Architecture Case Studies: Two new case studies and one updated case study have been added, including a manufacturing and a government agency case study, with more planned

Strategy Mapping: Updates include the addition of an improved strategy framework aligned with strategy formulation concepts, and incorporation of a discussion on the business model’s role in strategy formulation

Initiative and Product Mapping: These sections have been expanded with new blueprint examples and templates, reflecting the growing use of business architecture for portfolio planning and product management

Business Architecture and Business Models: The business model team has added a number of new business modeling scenarios

Capability and Value Stream Mapping: These flagship sections were updated with new templates and detailed mapping techniques, reflecting maturation of the industry in these critical topic areas

The Business Architecture Guild is very pleased to highlight the new Industry Reference Models sections. These sections grew out of a Guild sponsored Workshop held in La Jolla, California in December of 2015. The BIZBOK® Guide currently has the following reference model sections, with more in the planning stages.

Financial Services Industry Reference Model: High-level financial services reference model and related notes

Manufacturing Industry Reference Model: High-level manufacturing reference model and related notes

Healthcare Industry Reference Model: High-level healthcare provider reference model and related notes

Member-Based Association Reference Model: Detailed, member-based association reference model with a link to a live model that members may browse

According to William Ulrich, Guild Cofounder and Editorial Advisor, “BIZBOK® Guide V5.0 opens up a new chapter in the practice of business architecture. With foundational practices now well entrenched, companies have started sharing case studies that employ those best practices. We are thrilled to be sharing these in the BIZBOK® Guide with our dedicated and growing membership. In addition to the case studies and expansion of other key sections, V5.0 incorporates industry reference models that will evolve in depth and breadth over subsequent releases. We are all excited as many new doors are opening for the worldwide business architecture community.”

Collaborative member teams develop new content on a continuing basis. This content is formally packaged and released in new versions of the BIZBOK® Guide. The large and growing list of member contributors from a variety of geographic regions, industries and backgrounds can be found in BIZBOK® Guide Appendix E.
