Global Community Share

What Is the Global Community Share?

The Global Community Share program is intended to host regular, voluntary and happily anticipated online gatherings of our members beyond the realm of day-to-day work and locality.

Recognizing the challenge Covid 19 presents to all types of personal interactions, we wanted to create a program to build upon the success of local meetings and our first virtual Summit, address a broader global audience, promote Guild membership beyond the BIZBOK® Guide, and provide incentives for program participants and partners to ensure a deeper reach into Guild perspectives. Shares are shown newest to oldest. Our first share was a Vendor Demo day. The second share was introductory discussion sessions on general business architecture challenges. Currently we  are working through a six-part Myth Busting series designed to dispel myths about business architecture - Join in at any point in the series.

Summary

Session 1: Business Architecture is Complicated

Key takeaways:

  • Capabilities need to be linked to value streams to adequately convey business architecture value.
  • Business architecture does not compete with other teams. It provides insight and add value to other teams
  • There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in our membership. If you are new to business architecture - reach out and consider joining a team. Many team value the insight and  learning challenges faced by people with less experience
Session 2: Business Architecture is Too Expensive

Key takeaways:

  • Business architecture sis often not given credit for for contributions made to other teams
  • Stakeholders are not seeing what business architecture brings to projects
  • Ask what is the cost of not doing business architecture
Session 3: There Is No Commonly Defined Approach to Business Architecture
Key takeaways:
  • Most business architecture job descriptions have nothing to do with business architecture
  • It is helpful to begin discussions with strategy execution and then introduce business architecture. Nobody says they are against strategy execution
Session 4: A Business Architecture Can Be Built with Limited Business Engagement and Commitments
Key takeaways:
  • No it can not, but the struggle is where to find the business engagement and commitment. It may not be obvious or where you expect to find it.
  • To gain commitment, focus on conveying value
  • Look for senior stakeholders to engage, especially if your are not getting the initial responses you desire
Session 5: Business Architecture Can Be Licensed or Acquired

Key takeaways:

  • A business architecture is unique to the business
  • Customization is what makes business architecture valuable
  • You have to have your ecosytem mapped out and boundaries set to have business architecture be effective
Session 6: Business architecture is an IT discipline

Key takeaways:

  • Business architecture is NOT an IT discipline
  • Confusion stems from the fact the business architecture is considered by many to be closely associated with enterprise architecture, which is usually housed in IT
  •  IT is now challenged to understand business architecture

Global Community Share Introductory Sessions

Session 1: We presented a brief video presentation entitled “ You Showed Your Capability Map to Executives: Now What?”, followed by member discussion

Session 2: We presented a brief video called "Using Busing Architecture to Identify and Resolve Business Challenges" followed by member discussion

Both sessions offered wide-ranging discussions on value streams, customer experience and business architecture architecture in the year of shutdowns. We had a great mix of new and experienced members and the meeting was definitely global!

Global Community Share: Vendor Demo Day

We presented several demonstrations with Guild Vendor Program participants. At the Guild, we believe it is important to share the resources available to business architects and to show how business architecture is being used. The Vendor Program contributes to that goal. Please note that the Business Architecture Guild® receives no revenue, goods or services from the Vendor Program participants. Below are the  Vendor Demos.
